Our program is aligned with the International Literacy Association Standards for Reading Professionals.

What can I do with this degree?

Graduates with a Master of Arts in Education, Literacy are prepared to support the reading, writing and speaking development of K-12 learners in and out of the classroom.

With this degree, you will be ready to work with literacy learners in classrooms, after school programs, or other formal and informal educational settings.

Admission Requirements

Applicants are required to have earned at least a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university or a degree from a non-U.S. institution of higher education that is judged equivalent to a U.S. baccalaureate degree by the International Admissions office and have an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 (based on a 4-point scale) computed for all undergraduate credits from the applicant’s most recent baccalaureate degree.

A prospective student may apply at any time and should follow the general graduate application procedure for degree-seeking students (see Graduate Admission Regulations). Admission to the program is based on:

  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended.
  • An application letter that is no more than two (2) pages: Identify your personal and professional goals. Describe your academic and professional experiences related to this degree program. Be sure to explicitly identify teaching certifications and experiences (if any). Detail your purpose in pursuing this program, and why you think it is a good fit for your personal and professional goals.
  • A resume detailing your teaching experience and provides contact information for at least one professional reference.
