Graduate Assistantships

The Department of Early and Special Education offers a limited number of competitive graduate assistantship opportunities to students in the following programs: a) Master in Teaching (M.I.T.) in Special Education, b) Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Early and Special Education (including in the Early Childhood Emerging Leaders Program), and c) Education Doctorate (Ed.D.) in Curriculum & Instruction with a cognate in Special Education or Early Childhood. Graduate assistantships typically cover a 9-month position that includes a stipend, tuition and fee waiver, and student health insurance.

Currently the department is seeking graduate assistants interested in engaging in research and service related to learning disabilities, inclusive early childhood education, secondary transition services and behavioral interventions and supports (more information about specific opportunities is provided below).

Graduate Assistant Opportunities

  • Inclusive Early Childhood Education Focus: Graduate assistants working on inclusive early childhood education will collaborate 10-20 hours per week (depending on part-time or full-time status) with department faculty with a focus on disseminating best practices to early childhood care and education professionals supporting young children and their families. Focus will be on supporting high-quality, inclusive, inquiry-based early childhood education throughout Idaho.
  • Secondary Transition Services: Graduate assistants working on secondary transition services will collaborate 2o hours per week with department faculty with a focus on expanding opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities to pursue postsecondary education at Boise State University and across Idaho.
  • Behavioral Interventions and Supports: Graduate assistants working on behavioral interventions and supports will collaborate 20 hours per week with department faculty with a focus on enhancing services and supports for children with challenging behavior in a variety of contexts.
