Scholarships and Assistantships

Our department is focused on fostering the professional development of our undergraduate and graduate students. Direct financial assistance as well as promoting an awareness of sources of scholarships specific to geosciences are important venues for fostering that development.

Undergraduate Students

Departmental Scholarships

The Department of Geosciences awards several endowed undergraduate scholarships every year, some based on need and some on achievement.

Continuing undergraduate students will receive an e-mail announcement in early Spring with scholarship application materials.  New applicants to Boise State who plan to major in geosciences can contact Dr. Karen Viskupic at (208) 426-3658 or email karenviskupic@boisestate.edu for application materials.

Other Scholarships

A variety of professional geosciences organizations offer a range of undergraduate (and graduate) scholarships; visit these pages to explore opportunities:

Please refer to the Boise State Financial Aid and Scholarships Office for additional information and funding opportunities.

Graduate Students

Scholarships

Many of the same associations noted above provide scholarships and research grants for graduate students. Explore those links for more information.

Assistantships

Please visit the Graduate College for a wide variety of financial aid opportunities, including graduate assistantships (including a stipend and a waiver of fees). Assistantships – either teaching or research – are automatically considered at the time admissions decisions are made, and no additional application is necessary.  Admissions may be made without the offer of an assistantship. We encourage interested students to contact individual faculty to learn more about specific research and funding opportunities.

Other financial aid requires submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Contact the Financial Aid Office at 208-426-1664 for availability of forms and deadlines.
