Alternative Testing

Exams at the Academic Testing Center

For most accommodations, the Academic Testing Center (ATC; linked) will administer accommodated testing for students whose entire course is scheduled to take exams in the ATC.

For extra time on exams, instructors will still need to extend the student’s time in Canvas prior to the student taking the exam at the ATC.

Students can register for their ATC exam using RegisterBlast through their course Canvas site or schedule an exam appointment here (linked).

If students arrive at the ATC and any of their accommodations are not in place or there’s an issue with your testing accommodations during the exam, please let ATC staff know right away.

In-class Exams

For in-class exams (or for those that cannot be accommodated at the ATC), instructors have the choice to (1) arrange proctoring for the exam/proctor the exam with all testing accommodations in place, or (2) schedule the student’s exam to be taken at Proctoring and Certification Services (PACS).

Due to this, students are should speak with their instructor regarding the proctoring for their in-class exams so they know how their exam will be proctored.

Instructor-Proctored Exams

Instructors have the right to proctor in-class exams for students with testing accommodations as long as all approved testing accommodations are appropriately and effectively in place.

If an instructor chooses to proctor the exam themselves or arrange proctoring, students should work with their instructor to coordinate the scheduling of the exam. If any accommodations are not in place or correctly implemented, students should let their instructors know right away. Students can also share any concerns with their assigned coordinator.

PACS

The PACS testing center (linked) on campus is available to proctor in-class Canvas, in-class paper/pencil, or exams that cannot be accommodated at the ATC for students with testing accommodations.

If instructors choose to have the exam proctored at PACS, they will send all necessary exam information to PACS. We recommend students register for their exams as soon as they are able!

Once professors send the exam information to PACS, students will:

  1. Register for their exam at PACS (linked).
  2. Under “choose a group” students will select “Boise State Accommodated Testing.”
  3. Select the exam that corresponds with the course and instructor.
  4. Choose a date and time for the exam.
  5. Once registration is complete, students receive a confirmation from PACS which also includes their location.

If students arrive at PACS and any of their accommodations are not in place or there’s an issue with their testing accommodations during the exam, please let PACS staff know right away.
