In addition to academic accommodations, Boise State provides reasonable non-academic accommodations to ensure equal access to services, activities and benefits for students with disabilities, in compliance with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA).
The University reviews non-academic accommodations requests individually and may engage in an interactive process with the student to determine whether a disability can be reasonably accommodated.
Housing Accommodations
The Educational Access Center (EAC) reviews housing accommodation requests and may coordinate with Housing and Residence Life.
To request housing accommodations, submit a request for services with documentation to verify your disability and disability-related need. Refer to our Documentation Guidelines page to learn more about the documentation needed.
Once your request is submitted, you will receive an email prompting you to schedule an appointment with an EAC Access Coordinator to discuss your needs.
Please note:
- The priority deadline is May 1st for housing accommodation approval.
- Approval of your accommodation does not guarantee on-campus housing or affect waitlist placement.
- Approved housing accommodations will not be implemented until you have been assigned to a housing community; limited housing availability may delay implementation.
- You may need to relocate to a different housing community for your accommodations to be implemented.
- Single-room requests are approved only when clearly necessary.
- Requests based on preference (e.g., specific building or roommate) are not considered accommodations.

Assistance Animals
Animals On Campus
Boise State University recognizes the importance of assistance animals, including service animals, service animals in training, and emotional support animals in compliance with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA), and the Fair Housing Act.
Read more about how the University supports handlers/owners of service animals, support animals, and pets on campus in the Animals on Campus policy (Policy 9160).
Select the following dropdowns for more information about service animals and support animals in on-campus housing.
Service Animals
A service animal is a dog individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with a disability. A dog whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support does not qualify as a service animal under the ADA.
Service dogs are permitted in all public spaces and do not require approval. However, if you require a service animal and are planning to live on campus, contact Housing and Residence Life to let them know. This will help ensure that the service animal is appropriately accommodated at the University.
Support Animals
For emotional support animals in on-campus housing, submit a request for services with documentation at least 30 days before bringing the animal. Approval is required before the animal is allowed in housing. Refer to our Documentation Guidelines page to learn more about the documentation needed.
Please note: No support animal may be kept in on-campus housing at any time before receiving approval from the EAC. Keeping an unapproved animal on campus is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct and may result in disciplinary action.
Dining Accommodations
Some dietary needs can be met directly through Dining Services without the need for accommodation. Contact Boise State’s registered dietitian to schedule a meeting before requesting accommodations. If Dining Services is unable to meet your dietary needs, submit a request for services with documentation to request dining accommodations.
Transportation and Parking
For accessible parking information, visit Transportation & Parking’s accessible permits page.
To request a temporary accessible parking permit, submit a request for services through the EAC along with documentation to verify your disability or disability-related need. You may also request a temporary or permanent accessible parking placard by applying for disability parking through the Idaho DMV.
