Adjunct Faculty Learning Community

Overview

The Adjunct Faculty Learning Community (AFLC) provides a supportive space for adjunct instructors to engage in meaningful discussions about teaching and learning, deepen their understanding of evidence-based pedagogy, and connect with colleagues. Through guided conversations and collaborative activities, participants will be able to apply key pedagogical concepts to their own teaching practice, reflect on their strengths and areas for growth, and evaluate feedback to identify opportunities for improvement.

Participants who successfully complete all requirements and activites of the AFLC will receive a $300 stipend.

Program Learning Outcomes

After the FLC, participants will be able to:

  • Apply key pedagogical principles within their courses
  • Evaluate feedback on their teaching and areas for improvement
  • Engage in discussions about teaching and learning with fellow adjunct faculty

Requirements and Activites

Throughout the semester, participants will engage in a series of AFLC activities designed to help them successfully meet the program’s learning outcomes:

Attend Four Cohort Workshops

These interactive 60-minute workshops offer space for participants to explore practical applications of key pedagogical principles in their courses while building community with fellow adjunct faculty. Active participation is expected throughout each meeting. Having your camera on is highly recommended; if that is not possible, audio participation is required.

Meeting Schedule:

  • January 28, 12–1 pm: Welcome and Using Canvas
  • February 25, 12–1 pm: Learning Outcomes and Scaffolding Learning
  • March 11, 12–1 pm: Active Learning and Facilitating
  • April 8, 12–1 pm: Assessment and Universal Design for Learning

Complete Four Asynchronous Learning Activities

Before each cohort meeting, complete a brief (approximately 15 minutes each) asynchronous learning task. These activities may include watching a video, reading an article or blog post, or listening to a short podcast on a relevant pedagogical topic. All materials will be provided in advance of each session.

Attend Two CTL Workshops

Participants must attend two workshops offered by the CTL. View the full CTL calendar.
