February 2025 Everyday Teaching Awardees

The Center for Teaching and Learning is committed to celebrating and highlighting great teaching at Boise State. No matter how small or large a teaching gesture, project, or effort may be, they all make an impact on our learning community. Every month, we are recognizing “Everyday Teaching” in our monthly newsletter. Join us in congratulating April Masarik (Psychology), and Katie Conley (Education) who have been nominated for their everyday teaching. Here’s some of what the nominators said about them:

    April Masarik

April Masarik “Dr. Masarik is an exemplary professor who holds her students to high standards and simultaneously is known widely as an instructor who cares about and inspires all of her students. She has put extensive thought into the design of her courses to create a welcoming environment where students learn from and build meaningful relationships with each other. She scaffolds up genuine learning and growth such that all students have the opportunity to rise to her high expectations. Students love the regular free-writing exercises that get them applying the material to their own lives, reflecting, and giving meaning to what they are learning. Majors rave about Dr. M and how much they’ve learned from her classes, and meanwhile her research mentees keep going on to do incredible things.”

Katie Conley “Katie is very passionate about providing every student in her class a successful and comfortable learning experience. She is a great sounding board when it comes to discussing the evolution, challenges, and most of all opportunities of special education. This semester, she is diving head-first into a complex teaching research project. Katie’s ability to make anyone feel welcome is unmatched and her ways to engage people in thoughtful interactions — through a great selection of teas and snacks in her office or a clever brainstorming question on a whiteboard outside her office, and so many other ways — show just how invested she is in community building.”
