CE Counselor Starter Pack

New to Your Role? Start Here

This is a place for counselors new to concurrent enrollment to familiarize themselves with the program and its associated terms.

What is Concurrent Enrollment?

Concurrent enrollment allows high school students to earn both college and high school credit for college courses offered at their high school. Credits can be transferred to most other accredited colleges and universities in the United States. Concurrent enrollment instructors use Boise State curriculum, books, and grading scales to create a true university experience for students.

In 1998, Idaho Legislature established the Dual Credit—Concurrent Enrollment Program with the goal of providing a seamless way for high school students to get a head start on their college career at an affordable cost. Concurrent Enrollment credits are offered at the reduced rate of $75 per credit.

You may also hear concurrent enrollment referred to as dual enrollment, dual credit, concurrent credit, or early college.

What is Advanced Opportunities?

The Idaho Advanced Opportunities (AO) Program provides $4,625 in state funding to Idaho public school students and $2,500 to Idaho private school students attending an accredited private school to pay for dual credit courses, overload and workforce training courses, and exams.  Students must complete course registration with Boise State AND apply for funding through the Idaho Advanced Opportunities website. Students work closely with their high school counselor to submit their funding requests each semester.

Advising Options

Concurrent Enrollment offers several advising options for students including general advising and more formalizing advising program options including our 15 to Start and Sophomore Start.  Our formalized advising programs are only at select schools. Check out our program options webpages to see if your school is a participant.

General Advising

General advising is available to all Boise State Concurrent Enrollment students. Students do not have to participate in one of our program options to meet with an academic advisor. Students interested in scheduling an advising appointment can reach out to CEAdvising@boisestate.edu.

Sophomore Start

The Sophomore Start option is designed for students attending one of our approved high schools and who plan to attend Boise State after high school. Students will complete their freshman year of college in high school by earning thirty college credits before graduating. Students meet with an academic advisor at least once per academic year for support and to develop and maintain a personalized degree plan.

15 to Start

15 to Start is designed for rural school districts looking to support students who are planning to attend Boise State after high school. Students complete their first semester of college in high school by earning fifteen college credits before graduating. Students participate in annual advising appointments that include developing and maintaining a personalized degree plan.
