In this talk I will share my experience working at Sandia National Laboratories as a former materials science graduate from Boise State University. I will present the progress of ongoing research efforts in the modification and processing of ceramic materials within our organization to obtain targeted properties.

Dr. Patrick Price was awarded a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Boise State University in 2014 for his work exploring the phase stability of ion conducting ceramic membranes at high temperature and reducing atmospheres. Patrick continued materials research at BSU in the Advanced Materials Laboratory until taking a postdoctoral position at Sandia National Laboratories in 2016 in the Ion Beam Laboratory where he explored in-situ irradiation effects and mechanical testing, electron microscopy technique development, and tool modifications utilizing a unique in-situ transmission electron microscope (I³TEM) connected to ion accelerator beam lines. Patrick continues materials development and characterization at Sandia National Laboratories as a Principal Member of Technical Staff in the Analytical and Material Sciences organization with specific interests in functional ceramic materials, high voltage dielectric strength and surface flashover mitigation, hermetic metal to ceramic joining, and tritium interactions and decay in materials systems.
