COEN Departments
Our college is home to a diverse array of departments, each dedicated to excellence in education, research, and innovation. Explore our Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Construction Management, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Mechanical & Biomedical Engineering each offering specialized programs and cutting-edge research opportunities. Our Micron School of Materials Science & Engineering pushes the boundaries of engineering materials, while Cyber Operations and Resilience (CORe) prepares students for cyber careers across the globe. Additionally, the Engineering PLUS program provides interdisciplinary education to prepare well-rounded engineers. Discover the unique strengths and opportunities within each department as you embark on your STEM journey with us.
Civil Engineering
Civil Engineers design, construct, and maintain the build environment and ensure infrastructure is safe, sustainable, and efficient. Civil engineering is the umbrella for becoming environmental engineers, structural engineers, construction engineers, transportation engineers, water resource and river engineers, and geotechnical engineers.
Computer Science
One of the more recent fields of academic study, computer science is fundamental in today’s digital world. Almost every major challenge facing our world is turning to computing for a solution, from conquering disease to eliminating hunger, from improving education to protecting the environment.
Construction Management
Construction managers wear many hats. They oversee crews and work as part of teams to make sure capital projects are delivered on time, on budget and within the scope and quality of the design. They also manage the planning, design, construction and post-construction phases to achieve project objectives. Construction is one of the largest industries in the world today.
Electrical & Computer Engineering
Electrical and computer engineers find solutions to complex and technical questions related to the manufacture or implementation of electrical and electronic equipment. From physical circuits to design, these engineers build more efficient systems to solve complex challenges.
Mechanical & Biomedical Engineering
Mechanical and biomedical engineers seek to improve how things work. Students in this field might build cars that run on alternative fuels, create machines that allow blind people to see, deliver affordable wind power and solar energy, or design the world’s fastest airplane. Our commitment is to provide you with a strong foundation in engineering principles while offering tailor-made avenues to tackle real-world challenges.
Materials Science & Engineering
Everything is made of something, and materials scientists work to make sure that “something” is the best it can possibly be. Our degree programs allow you to combine your interest in physics, chemistry and biology with manufacturing technology to solve complex engineering challenges that affect our quality of life.
Cyber Operations & Resilience
For students interested in a non-engineering or non-computer science degree in cybersecurity, our Cyber Operations and Resilience (CORe), offers both undergraduate and graduate options in an asynchronous, online degree program. This program of study is a collaboration between the Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity, Extended Studies, and the College of Engineering.
Engineering PLUS
Engineers are responsible for the discoveries that rock our world – from technological advances to developing renewable energy products to exploring new biomedical devices and beyond. Engineers are curious and resourceful and tenacious. You’ll gain the ability to work across disciplines in a diverse team of professionals on projects that improve our quality of life.
