The SLIM Group has been really busy this semester. Below are some of the awesome things that have happened.
- Ali finished his master’s project and had a successful defense! Ali actually finished in December, but we wanted to be sure to mention his work.
- Yousra successfully defended her master’s thesis!
- Jake successfully defended his project proposal.
- Flo did some great work in our spoken dialogue systems class last semester that resulted in a submission to a journal (under review, but psyarXiv version is available). Flo also gave an excellent 3-minute lightning talk on her work at the Undergraduate Research Conference.
- Josue (Josh) worked in the fall semester on a data collection that was accepted to LREC. He has been working on his next research project in our lab and is getting ready for a SigDial submission that makes use of a really cool module that Catherine worked on in the spoken dialogue systems class. Josue was awarded the Goldwater scholarship, a very high honor that has only been awarded to 9 Boise State students in the university’s history.
- Osama has been pushing hard on several projects including working towards a thesis topic revolving around incremental reinforcement learning, and his deep learning project helps us use language models for reference resolution to visual objects.
- Daniel has been working to make Augi usable in the cloud.
- Ryan has been working on getting data collection with St Luke’s ready and he, carrying on the work of Tahsin, has been able to evaluate several incremental speech recognizers.
- Tahsin now works at Kount (an Equifax company), but his thesis work was accepted into the HCII conference.
In other news, Dr. Casey Kennington was awarded tenure and advanced to associate professor at Boise State University. He also was awarded an NSF CAREER award that will fund Clayton, a PhD student in our Computing program.
Such a busy past two semesters for the SLIM group, but everyone really make a contribution. Well done everyone! Some will graduate and move onto bigger and better things, but these past two semesters have been memorable and important.
