The Northwest Tissue Mechanics (NTM) laboratory was founded at Boise State University in 2012. The NTM laboratory is affiliated with the Departments of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering and Material Science and Engineering, and we work in collaboration with the Department of Biological Sciences, orthopaedic surgeons and local industry. Our research strategy is to (1) identify significant clinical deficiencies in musculoskeletal health, (2) formulate question-driven proposals to investigate these clinical deficiencies, (3) conduct rigorous research that prioritizes the scientific method and (4) transfer scientific discoveries into innovative and pragmatic solutions that advance patient care.
The NTM laboratory employs undergraduates from all engineering disciplines, graduate students from Biomedical Engineering (Ph.D.), Mechanical Engineering (M.S.), Material Science and Engineering (M.S. and Ph.D.), and Computing (Ph.D.), as well as post-doctoral fellows.
