Introduction: Health and safety is a primary concern when designing vehicles, but is of limited concern when designing homes, other than the obvious structural detail and electrical and plumbing connections. Given that we spend an enormous amount of time in our homes, we reason that a focus on health and safety should be of utmost concern. Thus, we are developing new techniques for measuring various contaminants and analytes that give clues to the environment within and surrounding homes, and we are studying the relationships between building materials and health.
