THE CHALLENGE
Create a product which showcases the properties of the shape memory alloy, Nitinol.

THE TECHNOLOGY
Nitinol phase changes at temperatures determined by its metal composition. The material can be trained to return to a desired shape when heated despite significant deformation.

This shows you Nitinol returning to its trained position which is a straight wire in this case.

What product do we make to demo these material properties?

Bench marking >> How is nitinol already being used?

HERE IS OUR ORIGINAL IDEA

Coffee lid with Nitinol auto closing and sealing mechanisms when coffee is too hot to drink.
