We’re dedicated to supporting student success, and one aspect of that is quick feedback on academic coursework and easy access to answers and tutoring. That’s why we employ student academic assistants to aid our instructors in key ME courses.

Position Description

Academic Assistants work hand-in-hand with a course instructor to ensure that students get the feedback they need to be successful in their courses.

Duties

Academic Assistants may perform any or all of the following tasks as required by the course instructor:

  • Grading of homework, quizzes, and/or exams
  • Preparation of documents (copying, editing, proofreading, creating, etc.)
  • Offering tutoring hours to help students understand challenging material
  • Assisting in classroom activities

Hours and Rate

Hours: Generally 10 hours per week per class. Most positions have a largely flexible schedule which works well for students.

Rate of Pay: starting at $13.00/hour depending on class and experience

Qualifications

  • Successfully have passed the course or equivalent (such as for new courses)
  • Ability to communicate with the course instructor
  • Ability to review and return assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability to set/maintain a schedule with the instructor

Lower-division courses

  • ENGR 240 Electrical and Electronic Circuits
  • ME 187 Graphical Design
  • ME 201 Engineering Mechanics I
  • ME 203 Engineering Mechanics II
  • ME 273 Introduction to Computation for Engineers w/lab

Upper-division Courses

  • ME 313 Experimental Methods Lab I (new)
  • ME 321 Thermal/Fluids I
  • ME 323 Thermal/Fluids II (new)
  • ME 360 System Modeling and Control
  • ME 401 Engineering Systems and Applications (new)
  • ME 411 Experimental Methods Lab II (new)
