STEP Wheelchair Accommodations
Aaliyah from the STEP program requires modifications to her wheelchair to improve her mobility and ability to communicate. Her current wheelchair adaptations improve her quality of life, but could be further modified to increase independence.
For the first modification, we created a device that attaches to her wheelchair controls which helps prevent her from accidentally pressing the buttons and unwantedly stopping her wheelchair from driving. The second device we created is for Aaliyah’s Bluetooth communication device. Before, she would have to unreliably balance the device on the arm of her wheelchair, but now the device can rest in a piece that straps on to the wheelchair and holds it securely in place.
