Dear ME Students,
This letter attempts to raise your awareness of courses being offered next spring, changes to the ME Program curriculum, and opportunities you may find with the new curriculum. But first, listed below are some ‘realities’ for spring 2022 to smooth the road towards your ME degree.
- Repeats: if you have repeated a course and need to take it a third time, you must complete the “Request to Exceed Maximum Course Registration” and have it signed by the department chair. See the criteria on the department website’s Repeat Policy and note the maximum number of repeats (6) including ‘Ws’.
- The last day to add a course without a permission number for the spring 2022 term (provided space is available) is Friday, January 14, 2022.
- The last day to withdraw from a course without a “W” in the fall semester (2021) is Monday, January 24, 2022.
- If you plan on graduating in the spring semester, you must apply for graduation by the end of the first week of the semester, Friday, January 14, 2022. See the checklist and other graduation info on the registrar’s website.
As you plan your next semester, be sure to refer to the department’s advising pages and study the 4 year course plan for your catalog year. The flow charts and 4-year plans show prerequisites indicating course sequences and the time necessary to obtain a degree.

While you are planning your next semester, you may want to consider adding a certificate to your plan. Certificates offered include: Biomedical Engineering, Computational, Energy/Environment, HVAC/Building Systems, Industrial Processes, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Materials, Mechatronics, Solid Mechanics, and Thermal Fluids. The requirements for each certificate can be found on the certificate webpage.
Declaring your intent to obtain a certificate will help faculty plan ahead and ensure the associated courses will be offered in the coming semesters. Instructions on how to declare can be found on the change my major webpage.
Note that in the new curriculum Senior Design (ME 481 and ME 483) will be replaced by new courses (ME 487 and ME 489) which require prerequisite design courses (ME 287 and ME 387). Therefore, your course plan must either have you completing ME 481 on or before Spring 2022, or completing the prerequisite courses required to begin Senior Design in fall 2022 or later.
