About the Speaker
The seminar will be led by Dr. John Abatzoglou, a distinguished Professor of Climatology at the University of California, Merced. Dr. Abatzoglou has published over 230 peer-reviewed papers and has amassed more than 25,000 citations. He is consistently among the most highly cited researchers globally since 2019. His influential works have appeared in prestigious journals like Nature, Science, and PNAS, particularly focusing on the intersection of climate and wildfires. Dr. Abatzoglou has also been the recipient of multiple research awards.
Seminar Overview
In his talk, Dr. Abatzoglou will:
- Synthesize the current state-of-the-science on global climate change. – Discuss the growing literature on the impact of climate change on water resources, agriculture, ecosystems, and human well-being. – Outline examples of mitigation strategies for slowing down climate change.
