State of Idaho now banning TikTok from all state equipment

On Wednesday, December 14, Idaho Governor Brad Little issued an executive order banning the use of TikTok on any state-owned device or network due to security threats posed by the app. This order, which is similar to that of a number of state and federal agencies, was issued in response to growing concerns over the threat of data theft from the Chinese government.

In response to the order, the TikTok app must be removed immediately from all state-owned or leased devices with internet connectivity, including but not limited to desktops, laptops, mobile devices and tablets. TikTok icons and links must also be removed from all university websites and electronic publications. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will also block access to TikTok from all university networks. Students who want to access TikTok on their personal devices may do so using their cellular data plan.

Questions about how this order is being implemented should be directed to the Office of Information Technology at oitcommunications@boisestate.edu.
