Automotive and Autonomous Systems Engineering position

Technische Universität Darmstadt

Summer research opportunity for mechanical engineering students to work in Germany on Automotive and Autonomous Systems Engineering!

Virginia Tech and the Technische Universität Darmstadt (Germany) operate an international National Science Foundation (NSF) Research for Undergraduates (REU) site on the topic of Automotive and Autonomous Systems Engineering in Germany and the USA. The overall objective of the NSF REU program is to increase the number of US students that pursue graduate studies in engineering and science by engaging them through graduate research activities while they are undergraduates. Summer 2022 will be the 10th summer of our US-German NSF REU program, and they are recruiting undergraduate mechanical engineering students from Boise State University to join the NSF REU program.

NSF REU participants are paid $6,000 in addition to travel, living expenses and international health insurance for those going to Germany during this 10-week summer experience. German language skills are not required.

The faculty of mechanical engineering at the Technische Universität Darmstadt is top-ranked in Europe, with automotive engineering as one of their specialties. Their 30 faculty members perform more than $50 million in externally funded research per year, funding 430 doctoral candidates. This is truly a top-flight program for students!

As of February 22, 2022, students from the USA will no longer have to quarantine for 10 days upon entry into Germany, though students will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter Germany. The application deadline has been extended to March 7, 2022 (postmarked).
