Idaho Microfabrication Laboratory Safety

SAFETY FIRST! is always held in the highest regard when it comes to working inside the IML. Please refer to the specific process or procedure safety protocols BEFORE commencing your work in the lab. There are many processes that require specific PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) before you begin. Be aware of the activities surrounding you. Safety in this and other engineering labs is everyone’s responsibility. If you observe safety protocols are not followed by other lab members, take it upon yourself to inform your fellows of safety protocols or contact the lab manager to correct the problem.

The safety program includes visiting the Boise State Safety website to read and take a short quiz about general lab safety modules applicable to working in the IML (and possibly other labs). Next is a lab orientation by provided either the lab manager or a lab assistants to go over lab specific safety operations and discuss safety protocols of working with individual equipment. Finally, you must sign off on the IML student users agreement and agree to follow the safety protocols presented to you.

If you have any questions about safety-related matters involving safety in this lab, please contact Pete Miranda (pmiranda@boisestate.edu), IMFL Director, at (208) 426-5713.

If you have more general safety questions in the College of Engineering, please review COEN Safety documentation contact Jonathan Scaggs, College of Engineering Lab Safety Specialist, at (208) 426-3913 or jonathanscaggs@boisestate.edu
