Scholarships for ECE Students

Each year, the ECE Department awards a number of scholarships to students.  To be eligible for consideration, students must complete the FAFSA and meet any scholarship-specific requirements. >> Learn more about scholarships just for ECE students.

College of Engineering Scholarships

Through the College of Engineering, the Edward W. Stimpson Leadership Scholarship is available to one junior or senior student who is pursuing an Engineering major who demonstrates exemplary leadership and service to Boise State and/or the community. This requires a 500-word essay and a letter of reference from one Boise State faculty member. Unlike other scholarships, students must actively apply for this funding.

IEEE Scholarships

A number of scholarships are available through the IEEE. See their full list online at IEEE Scholarships, Grants, and Fellowships

  • IEEE Richard E Merwin Scholarship –  scholarships from $1,000 and up to recognize and reward active student volunteer leaders in student branches or chapters who show promise in their academic and professional efforts.
  • IEEE Lance Stafford Larson Student Award – Award to encourage students to develop excellence in their communication skills and to motivate students toward achievement in the field of Computer Science. One award of $500 is given each year to the first place winner. First, second, and third place winners also receive a certificate of commendation. The prize is awarded to the best paper. In the case of multiple authors, the prize will be divided among the student authors. Deadline: October 31 of each year.
  • IEEE Frances B. Hugle Scholarship  – A female IEEE Student Member who has completed two (2) years of undergraduate study in an engineering curriculum at an ABET-accredited university or college within the United States.
  • IEEE Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society – Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) wishes to encourage academic excellence for students in the computing discipline.  Up to four awards of $1,000 each are given each year to competition winners.   Judging will be based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities related to the discipline of computing, and the letters of recommendation. 3.0 GPA and IEEE Computer Society membership required.
  • IEEE PES and the Scholarship Plus Initiative – First-year students are very much encouraged to apply. Students who plan to take at least three power engineering courses with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
