Electrical and Computer Engineering Students Win NASA Competition

Alex Smith, a Computer Systems Engineering major, and Electrical Engineering major Torben Vraciu were part of a team of students from Boise State who competed to develop new technologies for NASA’s Artemis missions.  The interdisciplinary team created the Locating Camera for Aquatic Recovery, or LOCATR, system. Their solution involved a webcam, a small computer, a computer vision model, and a user interface. They brought their solution to NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory for live testing in front of NASA researchers and nabbed the Innovation Award with their brilliant design.
