Computing is fundamental in today’s digital world, and is being used to solve problems in all walks of life such as business, engineering, medicine, science, finance, agriculture, art, music, industrial control, and many others. A famous quote expresses it succinctly: “software is eating the world,” and computer science is what you need to create professional software.

Boise State’s Computer Science Department, Idaho’s largest undergraduate CS Program, offers a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science with available emphases in Cybersecurity, Machine Learning, Entrepreneurship, and Secondary Education as well as minors in Computer Science and Cybersecurity, and a certificate in Data Science.

Academic Excellence

Small class sizes allow students to interact frequently with professors while students have 24/7 access to the CS building and its study spaces and labs including the Kount Learning Center which is staffed by tutors all day during the week and partially over the weekends. Students experience real world applications and networking through numerous local tech community events, high paying internships, and undergraduate research opportunities. Graduating seniors score in the top 20% in the national Major Field Test for CS majors compared to around 200 other CS departments nationwide.

Professional Success

Computer Science graduates find themselves in high demand with most accepting offers prior to graduation and they garner among the highest median pay of any major in the university (about $100K according to the US Department of Education College Scorecard which reports data four years after graduation), with about 85% choosing to accept full time jobs in the Boise area. Local employers prefer Boise State CS graduates and have invested heavily in expanding this talent pipeline.
