RTDS
- Real-Time Simulated Power Grid by RTDS Technologies
The RTDS simulator has the capability of interfacing directly to the SEL Relays through a hardwired connection. The RTDS simulator sends power grid measurement, breaker status and other state information to the relays, and receives event commands such as breaker open/close back from the relays. In turn, the relays communicate their status and receive commands from the SCADA control center. The connections between the SCADA control center, relays and power grid simulator provides a best-in-class emulation of an actual operating substation.
With the existing setup, attacks to the power grid can be initiated on the model system from many locations including:
- Enterprise level control center in the internet cloud
- Substation SCADA control center
- Substation Networking and telemetry communication
- Relay command level
- Power grid cascading event (Simulation)
- Multi-Protocol Substation Communication Architecture (SEL, Inc)
