    Nathan Edelmann

    Current Graduate Student Researcher

    Nathan Edelmann joined the transportation systems group after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Boise State University in 2020.  He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Transportation Engineering.  During his time as an undergraduate, Nathan became a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Chi Epsilon honor societies and graduated from the BSU Honors College.  He has also interned at Six Mile Engineering in Meridian, ID during the past three summers.  In his free time, Nathan enjoys skiing, hiking, chess, and playing the violin

    Mercy Hodunu

    Current Graduate Student Researcher

    Mercy Hodonu is a graduate of Civil Engineering from Federal University of Technology, Akure in Nigeria. She obtained her master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation studies from University of Cape Town, South Africa for which she was awarded two freestanding National Research Foundation(NRF) scholarships. Her research interests lie in the area of choice modeling, ranging from theory to design and implementation.

    She has collaborated with researchers from other disciplines particularly computer science and is working towards applying functional programming to solve engineering problems. She co-authored an article on Pedestrian crossing in Cape Town and is a member of Women in Engineering (WomEng).

    Mahamudul Hasan received his bachelor’s degree from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna, Bangladesh in 2015. He completed his Master’s from Boise State University in the Summer of 2019. He did his research on accuracy comparison of Lidar and UAV data. He also worked on crash prediction model for I84 in Boise. Currently, he is working as a Transportation Engineer in Champaign County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC), Champaign, Illinois.

    Brian Portugais received his B.S. (Civil Engineering, 2012) and M.S. (Civil Engineering, 2014) from Boise State University. His graduate research included predictive modeling of the traffic state and ramp meter control logic. As a Graduate Research Assistant, Portugais published two peer-reviewed journal articles with his advisor, Dr. Mandar Khanal. In 2016, he started Rapid Systems Engineering where he designs fiber optic and 5G networks for telecommunications.

    Wei Wang is a senior traffic engineer in Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). His work at ODOT involves reviewing traffic impact studies and site plans, providing recommendations on intersection improvement measures, assisting ODOT permits specialist with complicated traffic operational and safety issues, and providing technical support to the region access management engineer for access management strategies. He also has over 5 years engineering experience in roadway design, drainage design, utility design, traffic control design on various Idaho Transportation Department projects and residential/commercial development projects in Idaho. Wei Wang received his Master of Science in Transportation Engineering from Boise State University. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University. Currently Wei Wang is a licensed Professional Engineer in Oregon and Idaho.  Wei Wang was the founding president of Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter at Boise State University.
