Brandon King graduated with his B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering last week. Brandon has worked in the Advanced Materials Laboratory for 1.5 years. Here’s what he has to say about his time in the AML:
“Throughout my 1.5 years in the AML, I worked on the development and validation of a miniaturized transverse rupture strength (TRS) fixture for measuring the mechanical properties of miniaturized advanced technology nuclear fuels. I presented at the Undergraduate Research Showcase in the spring of 2024 and am poised to be a primary author on a journal article highlighting the miniature TRS work. I also am set to be a co-author for a paper dealing with High Temperature Irradiation Resistant Thermocouples, where I performed
3-point bend tests on said thermocouples. I also became trained and familiar with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), used to perform grain size analyses on ceramic samples tested in the TRS fixture. The AML offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to gain
valuable research experience as an undergraduate that strengthened my graduate school applications. The mentorship provided from Dr. Jaques and Allyssa gave me the tools to excel and push myself to be a great researcher.”
After graduation, Brandon plans to pursue graduate school here at BSU, with Dr. Jaques and Dr. Hurley as mentors.
Congratulations Brandon!
