On May 5th, 2023, the Nuclear Energy Club hosted the American Nuclear Society President, Dr. Steven Arndt, and his wife at Boise State University.Many students from the AML serve in leadership roles in the Nuclear Energy Club and put together this incredible event. The visit started with a seminar talk from Dr. Arndt, which explained the impacts the American Nuclear Society has on the field of nuclear energy both nationally and internationally. Dr. Arndt also shared his thoughts on pathways to increasing nuclear innovation in our country as well as the importance of nuclear to meet climate change goals. After the seminar talk, Dr. Arndt was able to meet Boise State University President, Dr. Marlene Tromp, Dean JoAnn Lighty from the College of Engineering, Dr. Nancy Glenn (Vice President of Research and Economic Development, Dr. Don Plumlee (Associate Dean of Academic Affairs), and Dr. David Estrada (Associate Director of CAES). Boise State leadership expressed their interest in creating a sustainability, net-zero campus to Dr. Arndt and supporting students who performed nuclear energy research. Throughout the day, Dr. Arndt was able to tour the Advanced Nanomaterials and Manufacturing Lab, the Innovation and Design Studio, Idaho Manufacturing Lab, and Advanced Materials Laboratory. To end the visit, the Nuclear Energy Club put together a fajita bar social and were able to share their accomplishments with Dr. Arndt and his wife.
