Why be a Graduate Assistant?
As a COBE graduate assistant (GA), you’ll build job skills that tie into your education, gain professional references, and expand your network. And there’s significant financial benefit. Full-time graduate assistantship pays for 100% of your tuition and fees, plus you’ll receive an hourly stipend and health insurance.
Most GAships require 20 hours of work per week throughout the fall and spring semesters. Contracts are not automatically renewed, but students may re-apply for a GAship in their second year of the program.
Deadlines and how to apply:
- February 15 – COBE offers a limited number of GAships. You must be accepted into a graduate program (or be close to completing your application) by this date to start the GA application process.*
- March 1 – to apply, candidates must complete and submit the Graduate Assistantship Form by this date to be considered. Completing this form will place you in the pool to be considered for all open COBE GAships.
*Students who begin their graduate applications after February 15, and wish to apply for a GAship, will be considered on a space-available basis.

Career Track MBA, ’26
Psychology BS from BYU – IdahoResponsibilities including:
– Tutoring in statistics and PowerBI
– Teaching Excel classes
– Aiding faculty research projects“During my first semester as a GA I got to work on cool projects with interesting impact. Early in the semester I worked with Dr. Guerra on research about using AI to fight human trafficking. More recently, I’ve worked with Dr. Rush who’s affiliated with a non-profit that teaches women in Kenya how to ride motorcycles. This allows them to be a taxi service, taking people (especially birthing mothers) to the hospital. The women are employed while decreasing the number of babies born outside hospital care. I’m hopeful I can continue working on exciting new projects in the coming year and I’ve encouraged several friends to apply to the GA program.”
