Mike Zeigler, vice president of global HR operations and services for Micron, came to Christy Suciu’s Management 301 class to give students a real problem to tackle. Zeigler first explained the case study he prepared, “Span of Control and Organizational Layers,” and then students split into groups to define problems, criteria, alternative solutions, implementation and control systems. Zeigler and Suciu were available to help explain more details of the case study and to clarify questions for coming up with solutions and implementation.
The students’ responses and solutions were well received. Zeigler commented how pleased he was with the problem-solving abilities of the Boise State University business students using the Rational Decision-Making model. The students completed this exercise in a little more than one hour.
“The students understood the problem, asked probing questions and came up with solutions that would work. It is great to be able to have such a distinguished guest. We are lucky to have Micron in Boise. Micron is a great partner with Boise State in many ways.” Suciu said.
