Second COBE Sustainability Report Published, We Encourage Others to Follow

The College of Business and Economics (COBE) published our second sustainability report today, designed to openly account for our social, economic and environmental impacts on key stakeholders. In line with leading business and education practices, the report, published annually, communicates areas of excellence and areas that need improvement.

“As a College of Business and Economics, we are role modeling leading business practices by accounting for our impacts on our key stakeholders,” said Dean Ken Petersen. “We also use it to improve our performance year on year, so it’s serving a practical, strategic function for the college as well.”

To fully align with our mission, the reporting project continues to place learning at the heart of the effort: 13 student sustainability reporters researched, collected the data and wrote this report. The students who produced this report decided to take a dynamic approach to communicate the findings by creating six infographics and four videos that highlight both areas of excellence and areas for improvement.

One area of excellence noted was increasing the college annual graduation rate as a percentage of its student population from 15-19 percent. One area of improvement noted was the need for a diversity strategy in the college to inform student and faculty recruitment and inclusivity efforts.

The reporting project is supported by the Responsible Business Initiative (RBI), a college effort co-funded by RBI’s founding partner Wells Fargo. The mission of RBI is to catalyze leaders across business, education and society who aspire to solve the world’s wicked problem.
