Scholarships and Funding

Looking for financial assistance, scholarships or other funding opportunities to help pay for your MBA education? CTMBA students can finance their education in multiple ways:

  • Financial aid (federal loans)
  • Scholarships
  • Dean’s GEM Scholarships (out-of-state tuition waiver)
  • WICHE (out-of-state tuition waiver)
  • Graduate assistantships (GAships)
  • Military and VA funding

See more information about these options and what qualifies as Idaho Residency below.

Almost all CTMBA students with a 3.0+ undergraduate GPA are granted in-state tuition automatically at the time of admission due to scholarships or alternative funding! See the program’s tuition and fees here.

Financial Aid (Federal Loans)

Federal student loans are available to US citizens and permanent residents. Typically, graduate students are eligible for two types of loans:

  • Direct Unsubsidized Loans are based on your discrepancy status and academic class level. Loan eligibility is not need-based. Unsubsidized loans begin accruing interest as soon as the money is disbursed (released) to pay fees. Interest rates vary each year and are fixed for the life of the loan. A FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the application to request this type of loan.
  • Graduate PLUS Loans are loans made to students to help pay for the remainder of education expenses not covered by other financial aid, such as unsubsidized loans. Interest rates are higher than unsubsidized loans. A credit check and separate application are required for a PLUS Loan.

To get started on your loan request:

  1. View Boise State Financial Aid’s webpage for Graduate Students.
  2. Apply early – submit your FAFSA Application online.

Be careful to submit the FAFSA for the correct academic year.  The academic year begins in the fall and ends the follow summer. Example: the 24-25 FAFSA is for the fall 2024, spring 2025, and summer 2025 semesters.

Students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA no later than June 1 for the upcoming academic year (starting in the fall).*

*Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 5 credits to be eligible for financial aid (loans). CTMBA students should plan for alternative funding for their summer internship semester when they are enrolled in less than 5 credits.

Scholarships

Dean’s GEM Scholarships*

The Dean’s GEM scholarship waives non-resident tuition for admitted out-of-state and international graduate students with an overall GPA of 3.0+.

*All out-of-state applicants with a 3.0+ GPA will automatically be considered for these scholarships at the time of admission.

Additional Scholarships

WICHE (Out-of-State Tuition Waiver)*

The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) offers the Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP) that helps graduate students afford their education. The WRGP is an agreement among WICHE’s 16 states and territories, through which participating Western public universities allow WICHE-region students to attend select out-of-state graduate programs at a discounted price.

Learn more about if you eligible for this opportunity on the WRGP site. View WICHE’s 16 states and territories that qualify.

*All out-of-state applicants will automatically be considered for this waiver at the time of admission.

Graduate Assistantships (GAships)

Graduate Assistantships or (“GAships” or “GAs”) provide a wonderful employment opportunity to degree-seeking graduates. GAships allow qualified, admitted CTMBA students to work within various departments within the College of Business and Economics (COBE). In exchange, they receive an hourly wage and tuition assistance.

If you’d like to apply for other University GAships outside of COBE, visit the University GAships webpage.
