COAS Community Survey Results: Key Findings

The College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) Thriving Communities Implementation Group is pleased to share the key findings of the 2024 COAS Community Survey. This annual survey aims to gather feedback from faculty and staff regarding their well-being and the support they experience within the college.

The survey was conducted between February 1st and 15th, 2024, and received responses from 241 individuals, representing a 34% response rate.

We appreciate everyone who participated in the survey and helped us gain valuable insights into the experiences of our college community. We look forward to sharing the full data set with a detailed statistical analysis this fall, along with opportunities for further discussion.

Here are some of the key takeaways from the survey:

Job-related stress and burnout: Approximately 70% of respondents expressed concerns about these factors impacting their well-being.

Mixed feelings of belonging: While 66% reported generally positive morale, nearly 50% felt like outsiders and uncomfortable sharing their beliefs. However 77% said they were able to be authentic at work.

Compensation concerns: Around 28% felt they never or rarely received praise for their work, and 35% said they were rarely or never fairly compensated for the work that was expected.

Career path uncertainty: 60% of respondents expressed some level of uncertainty about their career path.

Feeling unheard: While 32% rarely felt heard at the college level, 64% reported the same at the university level.

Positive relationships with students: Over 83% of respondents highlighted positive relationships with students.
