Thriving Community Grants

In support of the “Foster Thriving Community” pillar of Boise State’s Blueprint for Success, the college invites faculty and staff to apply to the COAS Thriving Community Grants program.

We encourage units, affinity groups, programs, and individuals to propose ideas to help facilitate community flourishing. Examples might include the purchase of a book for a group of faculty and staff interested in participating in a reading circle; it might include fees paid to speakers, or it might entail hosting an event in support of graduate students.

The program and its funds provide an opportunity to bring people together in person or virtually, as conditions allow, in order to build a sense of belonging and to share or explore ideas that can strengthen and elevate the communities within our college. Please use your imagination to propose an idea that will make a difference within our community.

AY2024-25 Program Details

Eligible Applicants

  • The primary applicant must be a full-time member of the COAS community (faculty or staff), but programming may extend beyond the college and can certainly include part-time faculty, part-time staff and/or student participants.
  • No individual will be awarded more than one grant in any given semester.
  • No department will be awarded more than two grants in any given academic year.
  • Applications from individuals whose department has a delinquent report will be held in pre-review status until all outstanding reports are submitted. (See further)

Eligible Activities

  • Thriving Community Grants are reserved for proposals in which community-building among students, staff, and/or faculty is the primary purpose and outcome of the activity.
  • The funds for this grant are primarily intended to support one-time funding. If the success of the proposed project suggests a role for ongoing funding, the Dean’s office and/or the Thriving Communities Implementation Team is available to serve as a thought partner in securing ongoing funding.
  • Activities that address a pre-defined, time-limited group, such as a single course of students, are ineligible for funding. (Rationale: such activities are not community building in the relevant sense.)
  • Activities that are squarely academic in nature are ineligible for funding. (Rationale: such activities are not community-building in the relevant sense.)
  • Activities that have historically been supported by departmental or other funds. (Rationale: the program’s purpose is not cost-shifting.)
  • Activities that have already received Thriving Community grant support are ineligible for additional funding. (Rationale: the program’s purpose is to test small-scale ideas for community-building; it is not intended to provide ongoing funding.)

Process

  • Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout AY2024-25 by way of this Google form.
  • Decisions will typically be made on funding within two weeks of application, with funds transferred within four weeks.
  • The maximum grant award is $750.
  • A brief report on the event or program and its community impact is due within two weeks of the event or, in the case of serial programs, the final instance in the series. Use this Google form.
