“Rachmaninoff Retrospective” piano recital

The American Piano Duo, Del Parkinson and Jeffrey Shumway, will perform a Rachmaninoff Retrospective recital at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Proceeds from the $10 ticket fee support student scholarships.

2023 marks the sesquicentennial celebration of Sergei Rachmaninoff. Born in Russia, he spent the last quarter-century of his life in the United States and never returned to his homeland. Three years before his death at age 69 from melanoma, he performed in downtown Boise, Idaho.

Rachmaninoff famously battled writer’s block. A disastrous premiere of his first symphony left him in a serious depression which he had to overcome in order to achieve his artistic destiny. This sesquicentennial celebration will blend narration with a performance of treasured masterpieces written by Rachmaninoff.
