MFA Reading Series: Ian Dreiblatt

Friday, Apr. 12 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm MDT

Free

The Creative Writing MFA Reading Series and the Literary Translation Society present poet and translator Ian Dreiblatt. He authored “forget thee,” “[a] chilling and tender and radiant collection” (Asiya Wadud). The Los Angeles Review of Books wrote, “Dreiblatt’s poems run on estrangement, ruminating on the present as if from a distant future, reading signs of the current culture as if they were ruins. The poems place us in the teeth of catastrophe, proposing that the 21st-century convulsions of the American body politic signal a disaster worth telling. […] ‘forget thee’ is entirely of its moment.”

Dreiblatt will give a reading at 7:30 PM on Friday, April 12 in The Hemingway Center, followed by a book signing. Free and open to the public, this event is funded by The Associated Students of Boise State University and the MFA Reading Series, which brings renowned writers to the Boise State campus each year.

A writer, translator, and teacher, Ian Dreiblatt authored the collection “forget thee” (Ugly Duckling Presse in 2021), as well as numerous translations, including Dmitrii Furman’s “Imitation Democracy” (Verso Books, 2022), contributions to Pavel Arsenev’s “Recorded Speech” (Cicada Press, 2018), contributions to “Avant-Garde Museology” (edited by Arseniy Zhilyaev (e-flux classics, 2015), and Nikolai Leskov’s “The Enchanted Wanderer” (Melville House, 2012, nominated for the Rossica Prize). For several years, Dreiblatt served as the TV Commercials Correspondent at The Believer; he also published original writing and translations in publications including the Baffler, BOMB, the LARB, Conjunctions, Elderly, n+1, and others. He lives and makes soup and exceptional mixtapes in Brooklyn, NY.
