2024 Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area Symposium

The Raptor Research Center at Boise State University, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management and the Idaho Army National Guard, will be hosting the 5th installation of the biennial Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area (NCA) Symposium.

The event is free and will be held at the Boise State Student Union Building on November 7 and 8, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. An after-hour poster session will follow day one on November 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the same location.

The NCA Symposium showcases research, conservation-based projects, and partnerships associated with the NCA. Resource professionals, students, and citizen scientists will present short (15 minutes with 5 minutes for questions) project summaries to expand on the historic work done in the NCA, stimulate new questions and partnerships, and identify data gaps that need to be addressed in the future. Topics may include, but are not limited to soils, vegetation, restoration, wildlife, raptors, recreation, human dimensions of natural and cultural resources, social sciences, climate change, resource management, or other topics relative to the NCA.

Additionally, we will host an NCA Management panel (Q&A) at the end of the day on November 7. The panel will consist of various NCA resource managers discussing past, current, and future issues, data needs, and methods to balance the resources for which the NCA was set aside with the multiple uses currently allowed.

The event is intended to educate and facilitate interactions with university students, local agencies, NGOs, private corporations, and the public. The target audience includes students, university faculty, current and future conservation professionals, and citizen scientists.

Those interested in presenting an oral project summary or a poster at the after-hours event will need to Submit an Abstract by October 25 and follow all instructions on that form.
