The Department of Mathematics hosted its 2024 Math Invitational on Nov. 16. The department held a variety of fun and competitive math events for student teams from across the Treasure Valley. Students tested their analytic skills with challenges like calculating the area of Boise State’s iconic “B” logo or creating unique geometric shapes with origami folding techniques.

Congratulations to the schools and teams who won the overall competition at the 2024 Math Invitational:

  • First place: Treasure Valley Math and Science “A” – Enoch Shao, Kellen McClaskey, One Park, Aiden Li
  • Second place: Eagle High School “Sum Σs” – Ruize S, Nathan B, Porter S, Savannah A, Brooklyn M, James B
  • Third place: Treasure Valley Math and Science “Acidic Queens: Because they are not basic” – Sophie Hung, Varnika Juluru, Maria Ma, Angela Ding

Student competitors hailing from local middle, junior high and high schools also heard a presentation from Boise State’s Concurrent Enrollment Program. They learned how to earn college credit for the advanced math courses they’re already taking and got a preview of student life and success at Boise State.
