Astri Snodgrass, an associate professor in the Department of Art, Design and Visual Studies, has been awarded a Fellowship in Visual Arts by the Idaho Commission on the Arts for 2025. The award recognizes Snodgrass for her commitment to the visual arts and her engagement with contemporary practices. It includes a $5,000 prize to facilitate her future work.
Snodgrass works across visual arts mediums. She’s touched with everything from painting and drawing to printmaking and photography, but her main interest is paper.
“My current work treats paper as a sculptural fiber, using techniques of quilting, staining and handspinning,” she said.
Snodgrass’s grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Norway, and that family history informs her art.
“I am interested in origins, from my own family history to art history to unknown beginnings that have been lost to time, like the advent of writing or the prehistoric invention of needlework,” she said.
