About the shows
“Notes for Tomorrow”
Independent Curators International conceived and developed “Notes for Tomorrow” as a traveling exhibition to encourage international collaboration and versatile modes of presentation and features artworks selected by curators from around the world to reflect on a new global reality ushered in by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Blue Galleries exhibition features video, photography, installations, film screenings, murals and scores within the gallery space, in the Center for Visual Arts and online (ex. Spotify) all produced within the local context.
The exhibit has run since last year in Istanbul, Turkey, Taipei, Taiwan, Calgary, Canada, Auckland, N.Z., and Nanjing, China, with exhibitions running concurrently with the Blue Galleries show at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe and U.S. museums in Las Vegas, Honolulu and New York.
Artists featured in “Notes for Tomorrow” include: Madiha Aijaz, Ernesto Bautista, Maeve Brennan, Vajiko Chachkhiani, Luke Luokun Cheng, A Liberated Library for Education, Inspiration, and Action, Nothando Chiwanga, Shezad Dawood, Demian DinéYazhi’, Cao Guimarães, Ilana Harris-Babou, Rei Hayama, Amrita Hepi, INVASORIX, Tamás Kaszás, Ali Kazma, David Lozano, Mona Marzouk, Joiri Minaya, Peter Morin, Omehen, Daniela Ortiz, Kristina Kay Robinson, Luiz Roque, Mark Salvatus, Ibrahima Thiam, u/n multitude, Wayne Kaumualii Westlake and Yan Shi.
“Queer ID”
J. Casey Doyle, Associate Professor of Art and Design at the University of Idaho juries the “Queer ID” exhibition. John Bybee, graduate assistant for the Blue Galleries and candidate for a master of fine arts degree in visual arts at Boise State, initiated the exhibit with an open call to Idaho artists including current residents, former residents and students or alumni of an Idaho university or college who self-identify as LGBTQIA+ and who currently reside in the United States. The exhibition features work by undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, faculty members and community members from Idaho and beyond.
