The offices of Housing and Residence Life and the Living Learning Program seek nominations from faculty for students to fill resident assistant and community assistant positions.
These positions are a great opportunity for students who want to live on campus but can not justify the expense when they already live in the Treasure Valley. These positions can provide students the residential experience allowing them to work and live on campus. It could also be an opportunity for students who are taking less than a full load of credits to perhaps not work an off-campus job, but be on campus and take more classes.
Additionally, the RA/CA positions provide students transferable skills to assist them in competitive job markets. Student RA/CA’s learn to:
- Supervise others by being responsible for 25-40 residents on their floor.
- Respond to crisis situations by being on-call which unfortunately is needed in most workplaces.
- Learn to manage administrative tasks, meet deadlines, and communicate processes.
- Learn to critically think and apply what they learn to the workplace. They learn to define a problem, evaluate courses of action and create divergent solutions to problems when more than one answer is possible.
- Learn to be effective communicators. They learn to write for an audience, speak effectively, listen empathetically and carefully, and portray ideas clearly and imaginatively.
Finally, sometimes people associate housing with the traditional double room with community bathrooms experience but there are many options for student RA/CA’s: apartments, townhomes, suites, the traditional double room with its own bathroom, or the double room with community bathrooms.
Nominations Due: Friday, Jan. 21, 2022
