The Green Communities Leadership Institute recently selected Brittany Brand, associate professor of geosciences and director of the Boise State Hazard and Climate Resilience Institute, to join the 2022 cohort of resource management and community planning professionals consisting of 23 leaders from 18 cities across the United States and Mexico.
The institute provides leadership training and mentorship to help prepare conservation leaders for new challenges including addressing climate change, population growth, economic instability and other components of community sustainability and resilience.
As director for the Hazard and Climate Resilience Institute, Brand’s work focuses on interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration to build connected, thriving, resilient communities. Her research areas include hazard preparedness (helping residents personalize risk and develop positive attitudes toward the efficacy of preparing for hazard events), community resilience (working alongside community members to co-develop locally relevant resilience metrics that holistically assess community disaster resilience needs), and volcanology (eruption dynamics, sediment transport in volcanic flows and volcanic hazard assessment).
Brand states, “I am thrilled to work with and learn from such a diverse and skilled group of professionals. I anticipate that the experience will greatly improve the work I do and my leadership of the HCRI.”
The Green Communities Leadership Institute workshop includes four asynchronous weeks, one virtual week, and a three-day in person event. Learn more about the Boise State Hazard and Climate Resilience Institute and the Green Communities Leadership Institute.
