Jill AnnieMargaret mounted two solo exhibitions in February and March. The project “Hairstory-Herstory” was featured in the Transitions Gallery at Idaho State University in Pocatello. “Hairstory-Herstory” addresses the basic human rights of women and girls with regard to freedom from sexual assault, child sexual abuse and battery. The installation was made with the aim of creating an immersive experience for the viewer. Silk gauze was selected as the primary material for its strength and translucency. Mirroring the path of healing, the silk is generated from a being in metamorphosis, the silk worm. Multiple layers of gauze create the illusion of suspended, rising and falling hair. The project included voice recordings of women in Buenos Aires, Argentina, speaking about their hair. The project was launched in Buenos Aires in 2014 during AnnieMargaret’s artist residency at Proyecto ‘Ace Studio.
