Application Information for Accelerated Master’s Program

Accelerated Master's Program Information

The following are needed for admission eligibility:

Boise State University chemistry major – Applicants must be a current Boise State chemistry major in their second to last year at application time.
Prerequisite – Applicants must have completed 75 credits towards their chemistry degree. These credits must include general, analytical, and organic chemistry.
Overall GPA – A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Chemistry GPA – A minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale in undergraduate chemistry courses.

The following items are required for the Master’s in Chemistry application:

Graduate College application – Complete application.
Official transcripts – Please request official copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts to be sent to Boise State. Learn more about submitting transcripts to Boise State.
Two letters of recommendation – Applicants will provide contact information for three references in the application system. Upon submission of the recommender contact information, an email will be sent to the recommender with a link to upload a letter of recommendation.
Application letter – Please provide a letter of application (no more than two pages) describing your background, academic interests, career goals, and how our program will help you achieve these goals. Indicate faculty members you are most interested in conducting research with. Learn more about faculty currently accepting graduate students.
Resume – Resume should include educational training, GPA, awards, research experience, publications, poster presentations, grants, etc.

Note: That the GRE test is NOT required for application to the accelerated master’s degree.

Admission to the program – When accepted into the accelerated master’s program, the student is admitted with “conditional” status.
Academic performance – Students are subject to all academic performance requirements of the Graduate College, including cumulative GPA, program GPA, and individual course grade requirements.
Dual enrollment courses – Currently, there are 3 graduate-level chemistry courses that would satisfy both bachelor’s and master’s degree requirements. Students can receive credits for CHEM 401, 411 and 440 for their bachelor’s degree while also satisfying CHEM 501, 511, and 540 for their master’s degree.
Stipend – Admitted students will automatically be considered for stipend support upon completion of their bachelor’s degree.
