Lab Safety Specialist, COAS
The university-level Lab Safety Specialist (LSS) is responsible for knowing applicable health and safety rules and regulations, training and reporting requirements and standard operating procedures associated with laboratory safety; Identifying hazardous conditions or operations in the lab, determining safe procedures and controls, and implementing and enforcing standard safety procedures. The College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) LSS will tune these procedures to meet the needs of the research and academic goals with Boise State and the departments in COAS.

Hazardous Waste Manager
The Hazardous Wast Manager (HWM) is responsible for the safe and efficient handling, transportation, disposal and tracking of hazardous waste materials in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. The HWM is responsible for the hazardous materials inventory and waste management system including inventory control, correct hazardous communication to the campus and local communities and training on the appropriate use of the hazardous materials inventory and waste management system.

The Hazardous Materials Specialist (HMS) bridges tasks and responsibilities between the LSS and HWM functions by conducting site assessments to identify hazardous waste and determine the appropriate disposal methods and providing training and education to staff on hazardous materials and waste handling and disposal procedures. The HMS also has a role in Conducting inspections and audits to ensure proper storage, handling and disposal of hazardous waste in context to lab safety and hazardous materials management.
