[Narrator]: Career services is here to support Boise State’s strategic plan and assist you in integrating career readiness education into your curriculum. In this video, I’m going to quickly tell you about the services that we provide to faculty and show you where to find faculty resources on our website. But let’s start with why integrating career education into the curriculum is part of the university’s strategic plan. Your students want meaningful work and they come to Boise State expecting their education to prepare them for a rewarding career. Alumni research shows that our students overwhelmingly consider faculty to be the most influential figures in their career preparation. When career education happens in the classroom, in addition to being more impactful, it also provides more equitable access to opportunities than when students must independently seek out help from career services in order to be career ready. We know you’re already providing opportunities for your students to develop skills that will help them achieve their career goals, but students often struggle with connecting their coursework to their future career and with being able to articulate what they’ve learned to employers. We also know that your teaching expertise is in your discipline, not necessarily career development, and integrating career education can feel overwhelming. That’s where we come in.
We have a variety of tools that can be used in face-to-face or online courses including e-learning modules, career videos and e-books, career assessments, and customizable assignments, activities, and reflection prompts. But most importantly we provide personalized assistance to you. We are your career education consultants. We can help you craft career-related learning outcomes and identify easy ways to embed career education in your course. We’re also available to facilitate custom workshops and presentations for your class on any of the topics we assist students with, which include career exploration and planning, gaining experience, articulating their skills and experiences, networking, job searching, resumes, cover letters, and interviewing. In addition to live sessions, we can create pre-recorded video slides or other content for your Canvas site. We can also provide employer and alumni connections for guest speakers. Additionally, career services coordinates the internship and Work U programs, and we can help you enhance any experiential learning opportunities that you provide to students. We also host events to connect students with employers and are available to partner with your department on industry-specific events.
