Boise State University Partners with PlexTrac to Resource its Cyberdome Project
PlexTrac, the premier cybersecurity reporting and collaboration platform, and Boise State University’s Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity announced their new partnership to supply PlexTrac to students and participants in the Cyberdome Project. PlexTrac is pleased to donate its platform for students performing critical cybersecurity work through this program to benefit rural Idaho organizations in managing their security posture.
The Cyberdome is Boise State’s newest cyber initiative, a collaborative hub for competency-based training, with the mission of reducing cyber risk in rural communities and helping expand the cyber workforce in sync with Idaho’s business, technology and government sectors.
ThermoFisher Spectra 300 STEM Installed at MaCS
The ThermoFisher Spectra 300 STEM installation at the Microscopy and Characterization Suite (MaCS), Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) is complete. This STEM is monochromated, probe- and image- corrected, equipped with Super-X EDS, Gatan Continuum Superfast DualEELS, EMPAD, ASTAR, etc., works at 30 – 300 kV, provides ultra-high resolution in both energy (0.2 – 0.3 eV) and structure (50 pm), is capable of handling a wide range of materials, bringing the PIE capability to the next generation at MaCS, CAES. This new addition is ready for the next NSUF RTE and CINR calls, as well as other projects outside the nuclear field.

A New Frontier in Water Purification
“Water scarcity is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century,” David Estrada, associate professor of materials science and engineering said. “At our lab, we are committed to finding solutions for problems, which have no regard for political, socioeconomic, or cultural boundaries. This new system can be tailored to fit the water remediation needs of communities of different sizes and economic backgrounds across the globe.”
Boise State researchers from the College of Engineering joined with researchers from Drexel University and the Idaho National Laboratory to investigate a simple, energy efficient technique to remove ammonia from agricultural wastewater. Research is co-led by Estrada and Tedd Lister, a chemical separations researcher in Idaho National Laboratory’s Energy and Environment Science and Technology directorate. The group’s work was published in the Nature Partner Journal, Clean Water.
