Book Circles

The BUILD Program invites classified staff, professional staff, part-time faculty, and full-time faculty to join us in conversation as we offer book circles to the community. Our goal is to sponsor at least one book circle open to Boise State employees each term (Summer, Fall, Spring). Each book circle will be facilitated by experienced staff and faculty, will meet approximately 7-8 times, and will provide opportunities to explore critical issues in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Full participation in any BUILD book circle counts for 2 credits towards your BUILD certificate.

Upcoming Book Circles

Fall Book Circle

“I Never Thought of It That Way: How to Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times” by Mónica Guzman

Facilitated by Jeremy Harper

This Fall Semester the BUILD Program is hosting an employee book circle. This book circle is open to any Boise State employee who wants to become more comfortable and effective at communicating across difference and facilitating others in that communication—both in learning and in working environments. Guzman explores questions that are always central to our work in higher education, but that may feel even more pressing during an election year.

Participants will meet a total of 7 times during the Fall Semester, with an optional 8th meeting to celebrate our work and be in community at the end. Participants should be able to attend at least five of the seven meetings.

Meetings will take place on Zoom from 12:00pm MT to 1:00pm MT on the following Thursdays:

  • 9/5, 9/19, 10/3, 10/17, 10/31, 11/14, 12/5

To apply, please register on the Fall Book Circle event page on CampusGroups!

Note: There is limited space for our Fall book circle. Consequently, we may not be able to accept all applicants. However, we plan to continue offering book circles (on this book and others) in the coming semesters.
