Update on Budget Modernization Initiative – January 25, 2024

After conducting a careful second review, the Planning Advisory Council (PAC) has recommended, and the executive sponsors have endorsed, retaining Kennedy & Company as the consultant for the next phase of the budget modernization initiative. Kennedy & Company’s consultancy will focus on four areas: project initiation and management; change facilitation and communication planning; stakeholder engagement, data collection, and analysis and discovery; and helping us build a roadmap for decisions and key considerations for future phases.

Retaining an external consultant to help with an internal process like this requires a thoughtful approach and careful planning. The team from Kennedy & Company will help identify, gather, and organize important information that informs the development of the budget model. Their work will be guided by the PAC and decisions about the model that is ultimately implemented will be made by Boise State.

Next steps in this process include:

  • Onboarding the consultant: During the second week of February, Kennedy & Company will visit Boise State for initial meetings with executive leadership and the PAC. During this visit, we expect to identify the key decision points for this phase of the project.
  • Information-gathering sessions: Between late February and the end of April, listening sessions and focus groups will be scheduled to facilitate broad campus involvement. These sessions will be facilitated by Kennedy & Company working alongside members of the PAC. The dates and details for these sessions will be announced in February. It is critical to ensure that as many perspectives are captured in this process as possible.

Going forward, periodic updates from the PAC will be shared through campus news, the Update newsletter and on the Budget Modernization website.

We remain grateful for your ongoing engagement in this process.
