Dr. Mainali’s lab published recently in the Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science (IOVS) Journal. Their publication Mechanical Properties of Eye Lens Cortical and Nuclear Membranes and the Whole Lens reported that nuclear membranes containing cholesterol bilayer domains (CBDs) were less stiff than cortical membranes without CBDs, suggesting that CBDs decrease lens membrane stiffness and possibly protect against lens hardening and presbyopia.Â
